| Lucinda Doran is the head of our religious team. Some of
our projects involve up to 12 windows for the same church
and will require a number of years for completion. Lucinda
has studied stained glass design and painting techniques at
the world famous Pilchuk Glass School. Her work typically
includes figures such as Jesus or Mary with beautifully painted
hands and faces, as well as robes and backgrounds if needed.
She has traveled as far afield as France to buy specially
made mouth blown glass which provides her with the palate
and quality she demands in her work. All work is done on a
commission basis. Lucinda would be happy to meet with your
church committee to put on a slide show of her body of work
so that together you can formulate a concept for stained glass
windows which reflect the architectural setting as well as
the beliefs of your congregation. |

| Contemporary stained glass design is generally non representational
and geometric in style. Much of what we consider contemporary
today is heavily influenced by the work done by German stained
glass artists after the Second World War. The design is approached
in a very architectural manner so that the piece will be in
harmony with the architectural setting. The lines can be curvy
or straight- but it is important not to be trendy as the glass
design will be around for a long time. |

| When
we think of traditional stained glass we generally think of
Edwardian, Victorian, Art Nouveau, Arts and Crafts and Art
Deco designs. These styles remind us of designs that would
have been used in homes from 1850 to 1940. They are symmetrical
and generally have elements that repeat themselves. Many designs
are based on plant life often flowers and leaves. The windows
can be colorful or made completely of clear textured glass. |

| Representational
designs depict an image from life in a realistic way. Over
the years we have been commissioned to create stained glass
windows with detailed renderings of the Saskatchewan Legislature,
a fellows boat house in Norway, the view from many cottages,
the provincial flowers for every province in Canada (given
as gifts to the respective Premiers from the Province of Manitoba)
and of course many Saints for religious commissions. The designs
can be detailed or more simple and stylized in approach. |
